The Adirondack beach chair is a summer classic with a relaxed attitude. Created more than a hundred years ago in the Adirondack mountains region of New York, the chair has since spread across the nation and far beyond.

Not only do we see Adirondack beach chairs everywhere, from beaches to porches to backyards, even indoors, we also see them in many different colors and designs. Some say Adirondack chairs are a destination of themselves! We want to go there, sit down and enjoy whatever the view. I totally agree with that statement. The Adirondack chair is the ultimate beach chair in my opinion, and it is so comfortable. What would your Adirondack beach chairs look like? Bright beachy, classic white, or themey (think oars, flip flops, or Margaritaville)? Check them all out by clicking on the links below!

And the men behind the Adirondack chair? Thomas Lee and Harry Bunnell. Due to a shortage of patio furniture for his 22-member family, Lee started nailing boards together in 1903, then took his prototype to his friend Bunnell, a local carpenter. Bunnel was broke at the time and Lee suggested he take this chair design and build it to sell to locals. Bunnel saw the potential for profit and secured a patent without Lee’s knowledge, which, of course, was not very nice. But Lee didn’t take issue, and the rest, as they say, is history. The Adirondack chair has become an American icon.
